The PMU is developing designs and detailed reports for each roads undertaken in this initiative after conducting detailed investigations. As such they have developed a investing and design procedure to suit rehabilitation works in rural road sector. In first phase 614 kms of roads coming in 8 districts; viz., Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Wayanad are taken up. In second phase 1024 km of roads will be taken up and its investigation works consultants are already deployed and field works commenced. All projects are envisaged to be executed under a state of the art three tier quality framework formulated exclusively for RKI LSGD roads. PMU has developed a quality assurance handbook suitable for rehabilitation and upgradation projects of rural roads. The handbook put forth the idea of a collaborative approach with best performing engineering colleges who showed extraordinary social commitment during the flood times in quality control, to act as third party quality monitor is also first of its kind ever in our country.
